Owner's Description

The note representing the Banco Potosi is an example of the one bolivano issue from 1894. On the left is a kneeling child in front of shelves of books, suggesting the desire for new discoveries and knowledge and political ideas(?). On the right is a portrait of General Antonio Narino, a very early voice from Colombia calling for independence from Spain, long before Napoleon invaded Spain precipitating the collapse of the Spanish Empire. Despite an extensive military and political career, including losing the election for the presidency of the newly independent Colombia to Simon Bolivar, he died in 1823 having contracted tuberculosis whilst in prison from 1797. SCWPM-Specialist Issues mentions that ‘A hoard of uncirculated remainders of #231 was located during 1984’ and this is probably one of those notes.
