Owner's Description

A quadruplet of the 1939 5 livres, pick 27, printed in London during WWII and marked with different geometric shapes to allow authorities to cancel them if the enemy got hold of the notes. The banknotes are dated 1 September 1939, the day Germany invaded Poland. They were put in circulation (with overprints) in 1942 and 1943. Front has two horses in addition to two lion heads from the Jupiter temple in Baalbeck, and a Lebanese village and cedar to the right. Back side has a scene of Beirut.
