I have fond memories of going to the local coin club meetings and auctions with my grandparents in the 70s. That was right at the time that silver and gold were reaching their then historic highs. Owning a franklin half dollar and watching its value rise 500% made a real impression on me.
I occasionally picked up coins here and there over the following decades, but the state quarters program that started when my oldest was born in 1999 reignited my interest.
