coin928's Bio
In the early 1960's, My Grandfather started a tradition of giving each of his grandchildren 3 Silver Dollars for Christmas. I was hooked immediately. I became a collector that very first year and I've enjoyed the hobby ever since. In those early years, my Morgan and Peace Dollar collection grew by at least 3 coins per year, and I primarily collected American coins. Then in High School, I attended a small auction, and won a 1904S U.S./Philippines One Peso coin. It was not a stellar piece by any standard, yet I was fascinated by this Silver Dollar sized coin with the split personality. Enamored as I was, these coins were not easy to come by. They were not promoted, and not often seen at coin shows, so my collection of US-PI coins did not grow, and my interest lay dormant. Fast Forward 30 years to the day I did my first search for this series of coins on the internet. My interest was instantly revived, and my wallet has suffered ever since.
In addition to collecting, I enjoy researching the history of the US Mint and ALL of the coins they produced. In addition to US coinage, this includes over 1000 different coins from over 40 different nations and colonies.
My online collection here consists almost entirely of coins I have acquired since 2004, nearly all of which were produced by the US Mint but none intended for circulation in the USA.
Check out my Custom Set "Foreign Coins Struck at United States Mints" for a small sampling of the "other" coins produced by the US Mint.
