Collector of British Notes.
My partners mum passed away very suddenly and we inherited some old coins and banknotes which she had collected. Our son had just been born and was only a couple of months old. I began collecting silver proof and gold proof commemorative coins just incase anything happened to me that my son would have something.
I moved away from coin collecting and started collecting british banknotes. At first I was just collecting the various different types of Bank Of England notes in different grades. The more notes I collected the more I enjoyed it and decided to sell all of the silver proof coins and banknote to collect high value British banknotes being first run, last run and replacement notes.
After buying notes from every auction house in the UK and every top dealer in the UK I noticed big discrepancies between these so called professionals grading, seeing cleaned and pressed notes being sold as uncirculated and selling for high value prices. I myself brought some of these notes but luckily had enough experience to return the ones i was positive had been manipulated. I knew PMG was the way forward for my future investment.
Even buying from the most reputable dealer you could think of, still got me caught out after thinking I would not need to check their notes because of who they are and 2 out of 3 notes of theirs that I sent came back with no EPQ, meaning not original paper quality and these notes had been sold at top book prices and as originals. Thankfully they took the return and gave me the money back for the notes but not for the grading. This was a big lesson!
The selling of banknotes is not regulated in any way and I have seen people pay big money for notes that have been manipulated and have got away with it because the note has not been independently graded and the buyer clearly doesn't have enough experience to realise what they are buying.
I am an advocate for PMG notes and advise all note collectors to buy already graded notes if you are not experienced in the grading, cleaning and pressing of notes.
SRG stands for myself, parter and son, it is the first initial of our names as it is a family collection.
I hope my son will carry it on and keep collecting anything I miss.
