Detroit MIke's Bio
Comic books have been a major part of my life since the mid-seventies. 1979-1981 were the key years. Often ignoring stories for the art, I couldn't ignore the Byrne/Austin run on Uncanny X-Men. Unfortunately, I sold my childhood collection in 1984 so I could pay a car insurance bill. It contained many key bronze age keys in nice shape. Then, I came back strong after The Dark Knight Returns made the cover of Rolling Stone. I bought books from Comic Kingdom on Gratiot/Six Mile, Comix Corner in Fraser, The BookCase in Saint Clair Shores, Dave's Comics in Royal Oak, Comic Tech, Gotham Knights, Bob's Comics. I worked for Michael George, as a manager of Comics World in Clinton Twsp, after the murder of his wife. I even tried to be a partner in a franchise. Those plans fell apart so I went back to school to finish my elementary education certification. I just finished my fifteenth year with Detroit Public Schools. Although I still love the hero books, my tastes have changed to include more non-spandex work. I'm currently trying to work on my original art collection which has a strong emphasis on the work of Peter Bagge. Although some people might confuse me for Mike Goldman, I'm not. But you might find me helping out, behind his booth, at a Motor City Con.
