OBVERSE: Young head of Victoria facing left and wearing a coronet ornamented with oak and scrolls.
REVERSE: 1/4 within a beaded circle.
ENGRAVER: Leonard Charles Wyon.

EDGE: Milled.
METAL COMPOSITION: Copper 95%, Tin 4%, Zinc 1%.
MINTAGE: 72,000
RARITY: Extremely rare in UNC condition. Despite the fact that mintage (72.000) was not small, immediate circulation after eight years of the previous issue (1887), resulted in considerable wear of the coins. Further wear occured because the next issue was three years later.
