The Arizona Grand Canyon Quarter was released on September 20, 2010, as the 4th quarter of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program.

Considered one of the Natural Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon was established as a National Park on February 26, 1919. Of the many canyon vistas, the quarter’s reverse features a view of the granaries above the Nankoweap Delta in Marble Canyon near the Colorado River. (Marble Canyon is the northernmost section of the Grand Canyon.) These granaries were used for storing food and seeds between 1050 and 1150 A.D.

I took the attached picture on July 10, 2012, capturing a rainbow on the canyon’s horizon after a rainstorm.
