Owner Comments:

This piece is a spectacular example of a Battle of Groton Heights medal that was struck in silver. It has a sharp strike and its surfaces are fully deep proof-like with highly reflective, glass like fields. Beautiful shades of iridescent blue and gold adorn both the obverse and reverse of the medal, greatly contributing to its extraordinary eye appeal. Unfortunately, due to the nature of its iridescence, I was unable to capture in my photos the full beauty of how this medal looks in hand. PCGS has graded only two examples of this medal, this piece at MS-64 and one higher at MS-66. The NGC census shows that they have graded only five examples, with none graded higher than MS-64 making this piece one of the finest known examples of this medal. The overall rarity for this medal is listed as R8 (5-10 known).
