Owner's Description

Avengers #19 features the first appearance of the Swordsman, Jacques Duquesne, as well as the origin of Hawkeye. Jacques DuQuesne was a performer at various circuses and carnivals. He also worked as a costumed thief, enforcer, and possible sex trafficker. His circus act demonstrated his mastery of knives, swords, and other bladed weapons. At one carnival he met young Barney and Clint Barton, taking them in after rescuing them from their abusive foster father. Seeing great potential in them, Swordsman and Trickshot trained the boys in blades and archery, with Clint often being a secondary performer in the Swordsman's act and Barney helping Jacques commit petty crimes.

In the story, the Swordsman infiltrates the Avengers's base and Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver attack him. He then admits he was testing them and wants to apply for membership. Captain America intervenes, saying the Swordsman is a wanted man. He escapes, however, Hawkeye explains that the Swordsman used to be his tutor when he was in the circus.

Our 9.8 is one of the four highest graded copies. We acquired the book off an E-Bay listing on 10/27/2018.
