Orders for the final installment of Midnight Nation were placed in May 2002. Comichron shows 37,019 copies were ordered, enough for 44th place by units ordered, and keeping it ahead of better-known titles like Action Comics and Flash.
Setting aside the two-cover gimmick for #1, the least-ordered issue of Midnight Nation (this one) still drew 88% of the order volume of its most-ordered issue (#3), despite two mid-series delays. The series is well-written and well-illustrated, and most readers who picked it up followed it through to its conclusion.
Continuing the trend of advertisements for doomed products, Top Cow's 2002 Battle of the Planets was intended to be an ongoing series, but sales were poor and the series was cancelled mid-cliffhanger at issue #12. In 2005, there were plans to release a two-issue miniseries to give fans closure (working titles included Coup de Gras and Endgame) but that never materialized. With Top Cow's license long since lapsed, it never will.
