Story summary: Rick mourns for Andrea, whom he thinks has fallen out of the bell tower. Negan tells him to save some tears for the next victims. Rick tells him to get on with the execution.

Nicholas starts to panic and tells Negan to let him go inside, back to his family, pointing out that he has already been shot. Negan is surprised and asks if he is really Rick's friend. Heath says [to Negan] that they are all just scared.

Negan prepares himself and tells Rick to "join" singing the same song Negan sang while choosing Glenn to be executed. Suddenly Paul Rovia (aka Jesus), who was hiding in a trench, grabs a Savior's leg, and uses him as human shield as the rest start to shoot at him. Negan demands they stop shooting as Jesus directs the other survivors to flee. He then starts to attack the Saviors (as the cover imagery), causing some to indirectly shoot their comrades. Negan finally intervenes, but Jesus is able to use Lucille against him and holds Negan as a hostage against the Saviors. Suddenly Shiva pounces on the Saviors [also depicted in the TV show - season 7, episode 16; the season finale], mauling several more Saviors; and Kingdom survivors attack as well. During the commotion, Negan is able to free himself and flee. Rick demands that they follow them but Ezekiel says they are still outnumbered. Rick then runs towards the bell tower and finds Connor's corpse. Inside the tower, Rick and Michonne find Andrea severely beaten, but alive.

Rick tells Carl that he wants him to stay and protect the Alexandria Safe-Zone. Carl refuses, but Rick tells him that the Safe-Zone won't be safe when the Saviors come again. Jesus says that Rick is responsible for everyone standing up to Negan and giving them something to fight for.

Back at the Sanctuary, Negan announces to his men that they're going to war...
