Owner's Description

This one is the single highest graded copy and the first Wonder Woman we bought. It has a cool cover somewhat reminiscent of the Flash and Mirror Master and is an early 9.8, which started our Wonder Woman run. So far we have only bought highest graded issues, but we may broaden the collection sometime in the future, if the opportunity arises. Acquired from PG Mint via an E-Bay listing on 5/52018.

2020 Update: Unfortunately, the Queen is dead, as this copy is no longer the single highest graded copy. FWIW, this book held the title for many years, as a good friend of mine purchased this book as a 9.8 in 2011 in a Heritage auction. Strange thing was that I was offered this book when I already owned it, but that's the story of another lawsuit not involving moi.

We have also expanded our targets since the initial description. Still, while this is a very spotty run, it has progressed beyond a few isolated issues.

2024 Update: Looking back on our six years of collecting WW, this is a set that I often wish we had never started. But I do understand a little more about the history of this book, which started it all. The European owner of this book from 2011-2018 had and still has books all over the world and was evidently storing some with a dealer who went by PG Mint. Those books were sold online without his permission back in the 2018-2020 time range. I believe most of the stolen (?) books were from the WW and WF titles. I am not sure whether there has been any legal resolution between the two parties, but since the former European owner has sold his other books in this title, he would be seeking monetary restitution, not a return of the books since they were sold on E-Bay to unsuspecting buyers. The whole thing was a mess.

One thing it did point out to me is that many owners of these books never actually take delivery, but trade them like stock certificates. That’s not to say that all such buyers don’t know comics, the European owner in question lives and breaths comics, but he does not sit around looking at what he owns. You can either be in this to collect or to make money and if it’s the latter, you cannot fall in love with your inventory. We still have a very hard time parting with any book, unless we already have a better copy, so we definitely aren’t in it for the money. BUT, when the collection becomes a significant portion of your net worth and money is not unlimited, you also have to make rational buying and selling decisions too-at least you should.

In my case, I have often payed too much for a book we needed to complete a collection and turned down big profits on books we bought well, but at least we still have all my favorite books, I guess that’s something. But I do have plenty of regrets about books for which we paid too much and others that we did not chase more aggressively. Hindsight is always 20/20. And in hindsight, I am not sure starting a WW collection was one of my smarter moves. We are and have been too spread out in our collecting for many years and would have been better served if we had bought less and focused more on key issues. Live and learn…..but I still like the cover of this book.
