Owner's Description

The story continues in Issue #43 as Aquaman encounters a race of slow-moving giants and is taken in by Phil Darson, a surface man in a submarine. Meanwhile, Aqualad recovers from his wound and attempts to track down Aquaman, first going to the site of the Sorcerers' city. But the city has faded into another realm, and Aqualad is taken captive by hostile purple beings, the Elfdurans, who force him to fight in their arena as a gladiator. Aqualad fights valorously, but is eventually kayoed. The Elfduran ruler believes Aqualad may be strong enough to defeat the Bugala, a monster that has killed many of their people. Meanwhile, in Atlantis, the populace suffers an earthquake.

Our John Fantucchio Pedigree copy of Issue #43 is one of four highest graded. Fantucchio was a well-known artist in '60s fandom, drawing covers for RBCC and the Comic Buyers Guide (including the #1 cover), and even worked as an illustrator for the CIA from 1963 to 1988. During this time he amassed full runs of Marvel, DC, Gold Key, Charlton, ACG and Dell, among others, keeping them locked away and untouched, which resulted in uniformly high grades and near perfect cover inks. After his passing in 2016, the family auctioned the collection through Comiclink. Even though the books have no distinctive markings, many were CGC graded.

We acquired the book off an E-Bay listing on 6/12/2019.
