Owner's Description
1:25 ratio cover. Jim Lee showing us all how awesome Sonja can be without the Red - not the easiest thing to do. But really, this is a sweet image showing off Sonja's strength and beauty. It does feel a little odd with the red in the masthead and not in her hair, but whatever. Really I purchased this to hold until I see a reasonable Jim Lee signing opportunity, because I think it'll press out pretty good - and I'm not upset to own a 9.6. I think that represents a nice, solid modern book.
I like how Jim has shown her with a wide stance in the snow - that would totally help her balance, particularly with a large, 2-handed weapon strike like she's all wound up for. The slightly loose finger grip is also a very real swordfighter thing - allowing better fine control of the heavy weapon. What I don't get, is why she's fighting left-handed. That is odd - but maybe nobody noticed, and maybe Jim used a left-handed model, and maybe he worked from a reversed photo/image. In any instance, it immediately tipped me off on changes in my own stance, if I were fighting her. I guess I fought with a fair number of lefties over the years.
Overall? Hard to say. I know I passed on this cover when it came out - although that may have been because the only one to get to my LCS was damaged (looking at you Diamond), or maybe it sold out before I got there. But I do like it. Probably I would have picked it up from the LCS had it been available and undamaged - based on the cover.
