Owner's Description
This book was a real work in progress! I had submitted a Superman 75 second, third, and fourth printing with a submission of 20 books. The submission overall was very good except for all three 75's did not do well at all. I was bummed!
I then got a 9.8 copy of this book with off white to white pages for $100.00, which I felt was a really good price. The page quality ended up bothering me more than the less than 9.8 books in my collection at the time. I think that was because the lower grade books I had were mostly from my own submissions and from my original raw collection.
I then got a really nice looking raw copy of this book with great 9.8 with white page potential from friend and fellow board member Brandon Shepherd. My intent was to bide my time and submit the raw copy and see how it went, no rush.
A nice looking 9.8 with white pages then popped up on eBay. Ugh, I had just spent a bunch of money on some other books and, even though my Wife supports my collecting, there is a limit to how far I can push it. In fact, the timing of buying another book was so bad that it was hard even for me to make it make sense. I was in luck though! My Birthday was in a week and I was able to play the Birthday Card to both soften up my Wifey, and to make myself feel like I actually deserved another book (SMH). Psychologists say that a Human Being can rationalize themselves into thinking that pretty much anything is okay, and I am openly admitting I am no exception to this rule... at least when it comes to trying to complete this set. I ended up paying $145.00 for that book and finally had a 9.8 with white pages!
I bought the book you see here now almost a year later. It was listed on eBay for $229.95 or best offer. I made an offer of $200.00 which the seller accepted. When I added it my Base Set was already 100 percent complete. Additionally, I only had four books that were below 9.8 and they were all 9.6’s. I decided I would casually add Signature Series books if I ran across ones that were priced right and looked good. Superman 75 first printing was the first book I did this with because the gold signature on that book really stood out nicely and gave me the idea to start looking for other Signature Series books as well. I think the signature on the book you see here is pretty cool because, being in black sharpie, and placed over the dark clouds makes it look like it is part of the impending storm.
Note - I eventually did submit the copy I got from Brandon... it came back 9.8 and will stay in my collection!
Note #2 - When it comes to my overall collection of books from this story there are a few that really stand out and that I am absolutely THRILLED to own… the book in the second picture slot stands out even among them. Please check out my Custom Set (link in this set’s description) where this book has it’s own slot to read about it, and to also see the Dynamic Forces COA!
