Owner's Description

There was a locomotive nicknamed "The General" during the Civil War. It was a 4-4-0 steam locomotive built in 1855 by Rogers, Ketchum & Grosvenor for the Western & Atlantic Railroad. The General became famous for its role in the Great Locomotive Chase, also known as Andrews' Raid, where Union spies commandeered it in an attempt to disrupt the Confederate rail network.

Today, The General is preserved at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia.
