Owner's Description
1:15 ratio B&W cover. Ha! Or Gene Ha anyway. This is an instance where the base cover is better than the B&W version of the same cover. The lines are just so heavy, the the shadow that starts from Sonja's lip and runs under her jawline looks weird in B&W. Still - I have two copies of this book, this one and one signed by Gene, and zero copies (not even a raw copy) of cover 18A, the full color version of this image. Looking at the image - I do like how Sonja has caught an incoming blade on her dagger and is taking a finishing swing with her sword. The weapons are meant to work together. She needs to get a move on though, she's getting attacked from several angles at once. Is it me, or is there a huge amount of underboob in this image? Like more than normal. Whatever. Honestly, I don't feel any sense of urgency in this image. Maybe that's why it doesn't click with me. I just don't know. The cover options (outside of the Loprestri cover) for issue 18 weren't all that interesting to me - I guess it's just that way sometimes - even with a half dozen options.
Overall? Meh.
