Owner's Description

In Issue #58, Aquaman returns home only to discover that Mera is missing. What he does find, however, is that his old foe the Fisherman, is lying in wait inside the Aquacave. He snares Aquaman inside a pressurized net and Aquaman's body chemistry cannot compensate for the change in pressure quickly enough and he falls into unconscious.

When he comes to, he finds that the Fisherman has secured him to the solar panels of his father's old, abandoned lighthouse. Confident that he has at last defeated him, the Fisherman leaves Aquaman to his fate-don’t you love how the baddies always do that LOL. As the rays of the sun dehydrate Aquaman, he reflects upon his childhood, growing up on this tiny island with his father Tom Curry and his Atlantean mother Atlanna. The memories bolster Aquaman's confidence and he eventually breaks free and dives into the sea to search for the Fisherman.

I’m not sure what it is about this book from the late 70s, but I had a very hard time finding a 9.8 and then, when I finally did, I ended up paying far more than I should have in an E-Bay auction. As of 2022 when I wrote our prior description for our 9.6, there were just two 9.8s in the census, but this book was just graded and now makes the fourth. The good thing is that it left us with just two issues where we lack a highest graded example, #11 and #42. We acquired this WP 9.8 from an E-Bay auction on March 11, 2024.
