This is one of my favorite covers in this run and an extremely difficult book to find in high grade. Our 9.2 comes from the Alfred Pennyworth Collection and is tied for third highest graded trailing a single 9.6 and two 9.4s. It is also our 93rd acquisition out of the 100 books in this set and the first one that does not satisfy our criteria of being at least a 9.4 and at least second highest graded. So why did we do it? First, it is still the highest graded copy of this issue that we have seen since we stated this set. Second, there are just three books graded any higher in the census. Third, it is the Alfred Pennyworth book, which tells me how difficult it must be to find one with a higher grade. Fourth, it was affordable, as we acquired the book at about a 20% discount to what it sold for in the Pennyworth Auction on Heritage.
We acquired the book off the CL Exchange in June 2024-it was also listed elsewhere, but we always avoid E-Bay whenever possible since the other sites have better databases and then there’s that pesky sales tax. Now we have just seven to go, wish us luck!
