Story:
Indy gets a visitor, a former student, Charlie Dunne, who claims that he and his sister found the Ikons of Ikammanen, mythical statues that become living avengers.
Before Charlie can elaborate, however, a knife is thrown through the window, killing him. Among his belongings Indy and Marcus find a photo of a temple and a hotel address for Edith Dunne, the sister, in Liberia. Indy decides to travel to Liberia.
In Liberia, Indy meets up with Edith at the dock, goes back to her hotel and, upon entering Edith's room, is attacked by robed men, who fight Indy and toss Edith out the window to a waiting person who runs off with her.
Indy races after them until he reaches a dead end alley. A big door shuts behind him and a trap door drops him into a chamber with one locked door. Indy uses his gun to shoot the lock and kicks the door open.
In the next room he meets Solomon Black, who wants the Ikons for their gold. He wants Indy to help him acquire the Ikons or else kill Edith. Indy reluctantly agrees.
Indy, Edith, Black and his men take a boat to the hidden island Charlie had found and Edith marked on a map. Black sends Indy and Edith along with three of his men to the island.
The beach is booby trapped with arrows from the jungle, killing one of Blacks men. Indy gets himself and Edith through it and eventually they reach the top of the volcano crater, where they find an entire village within and the Temple in the center.
The village is deserted, and they walk into the temple and find the Ikons arranged around the inside with an altar in the center and a chain hanging from the roof with gold on the end of it and gold splattered all over the floor.
On a hunch, Indy snaps one of the statues from its base revealing bones inside the gold, then is knocked out from behind.
He comes to only to find that he and Edith have been tied to the end if the chain over the altar by some old men in ceremonial garb. The stone on the altar is slid aside to reveal a pit of molten gold, and they are slowly lowered towards it.........
