Owner's Description
"This is the first issue of DC's groundbreaking weekly comic that told the tale of the "missing" year in the DC Universe in real time follwing the cataclysmic events of Infinite Crisis."
This opening described the beginning of what would be a rollercoaster of ride for a whole year! Naysayers didn't think it could be done on schedule and some questioned whether such an endeavor could keep readers hooked without a focus on DC's big three of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.
This year was centered around a different tier of characters-Black Adam, Booster Gold, Renee Montoya, The Question, Ralph Dibney (The Enlongated Man), Animal Man, Starfire, Natasha Irons (niece of Steel), Adam Strange and Dr. T.O. Morrow. New characters would be introduced during the series, most notably Batwoman in week 11.
Stories throughout 52 illustrated what was happening in "real time" with reverberations throughout DC's universe and answered questions posed from DC's "One Year Later" storyline.
This series absolutely blew me away! I will share with you over each issue how I felt reading it, and what music I was listening to while I originally read each issue. My hands down favorite storyline then and now was the sad tale of Black Adam. I will share my thoughts on this powerful, misunderstood character-and hopefully you can understand his motivations on being who he is.
PICK UP THE TRADE PAPERBACK, TURN ON YOUR I-TUNES, AND BUCKLE UP FOR A HELL OF A RIDE COURTESY OF DC COMICS FINEST!!
Week 1: Golden Lads and Lasses Must.... This issue sets the stage for the series putting on display Renee Montoya who spends too much time drunk.
Booster Gold and his buddy skeets using downloaded history from the future to prevent disasters but mostly grab the headlines and the accompanying fortune and glory. This first issue shows that all that was written in the future, is not coming to pass, as Booster discovers at the funeral of Superboy. The timeline is being rewritten....
Black Adam is shown to be the undeniable ruler of Kahndaq.
Natasha Irons insubordinate and disrespectful attitude to her uncle,Steel, results in John Irons electronically dismantling Natasha's armor while telling her she can build her own armor if she wants to continue to act the way she is.
We get a glimpse Ralph Dibney in the act of committing suicide over the pain and depression resulting from the loss of his beloved wife Sue, in Identity Crisis. He halts only when he hears on his anwering machine that Sue's tombstone has been desecrated.
The stage is set for 52...
Each issue in this series was collaborated and written by Geoff Johns, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid and Grant Morrison. Keith Giffen provided art breakdowns for every issue, with finished art being produced some of DC's best and brightest in 2006 and 2007. J.G. Jones rocked each and every cover-with some having "Easter Eggs" for the delight of the observant viewer.
