Synopsis: Ten years earlier, Logan made the acquaintance of the murder-mad contract killer McLeish, whom Logan thought he had killed in vengeance for the murder of his girlfriend's father. The relationship between Logan and his lady, Ai-Chia, ended shortly thereafter, with Logan unable to explain why he had been friendly with McLeish prior to her father's murder.

Now, Logan rides his motorcycle through the woods of New York as he attempts to evade the still-living McLeish's assassins. However, a squad of killers ambush him on the road. He makes short work of them, and determines that McLeish's intent is not to have him killed yet, but to herd him toward their final confrontation. Logan proceeds on foot in the direction he thinks he'll find McLeish. Soon, he comes upon a tape recorder with a message from the hit-man, and a booby trap which he narrowly avoids. Then Logan finds the body of Ai-Chia bound to the swinging plank that is part of the booby trap. Enraged, Logan runs further into the woods, vowing to kill McLeish.

Another Take: As Wolverine escapes the city, he’s attacked by assassins with adamantium bullets. He claws through them and heads deeper into the woods, hoping to find McLeish. A flashback to Hong Kong shows Wolverine saying goodbye to his girlfriend, Ai-Chia. She refuses to touch him, knowing now that he’s as much of a killer as McLeish. In the present, Wolverine passes a recording of McLeish’s voice. In the trees, he discovers the body of Ai-Chia. Wolverine explodes in anger, promising to give McLeish his animal side.
