Banco Central de Venezuela introduces new banknotes as part of their Currency Reform series.

Just a few weeks ago, the Banco Central de Venezuela announced that two new colorful notes will join the latest series of notes, the Currency Reform series. The $1,000-bolivar and $2,000-bolivar notes both feature striking depictions of figures in Venezuelan history and animals.

A proud Pedro Camejo is shown on the front side of the new $1,000-bolivar note. Pedro lived from 1790-1821. He began as a slave and grew to eventually earn the title, “Negro Primero.” As “The First Black” forced to fight with the Royal Army, his unrest inspired him to fight for freedom. He chose to fight with the rebel army in the Venezuelan War for Independence and displayed great courage and bravery. The front side of the $2,000-bolivar note features Cacique Guaicapuro, who was a native Venezuelan chief of the Teques and Caracas tribes.

The back of the $1,000-bolivar note features a detailed giant armadillo and the Venezuelan coat of arms. The back of the $2,000-bolivar note depicts the same coat of arms and a majestic American harpy eagle.

These colorful notes and the other notes in the series didn’t originate in Venezuela, however; they came from Stockholm, Sweden. The other new notes in the series are $500, $5,000, $10,000, and $20,000 bolivares. The various denominations depict other Venezuelan figures of history, such as Francisco de Miranda, Simon Bolivar, Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi, and Simon Rodriguez.
