Set Description:

Synopsis: Our set here is definitely a work in progress. Forty-six books in this set are highest graded examples, including 45 9.8s and one 9.6. But our empty slots or placeholders are all in the first 15 issues, signifying that we are not close to completing our goal of a 9.8/9.6 run of Issues #1-66.

Background: I bought my first X-Men #1 from a drugstore on the Square as a young boy. I started reading Marvels after FF and Spidey hit the newsstands, but was already hooked when Stan the Man created Avengers and X-Men and have #1s of both, which are now just readers with my name stamp LOL.

First Class is actually one of my favorite Marvel movies, although those four go downhill from there. I thought they were set up to do a great evil mutant movie at the conclusion of that one, but never followed through, which was very disappointing.

This set is far from our best, hence the name Second Class, playing off the movie. At one time we did have a complete set, but sold off many lower graded copies to raise cash. While we are proactively trying to replace those books, since the census for most books is relatively high, we generally let them go if the price is not right. We do have 44 9.8s, which includes two single highest graded books: #22 and #42. But we also have a lot of 9.4s in the early issues and we still need a nice #1. We target upgrades to this collection when the opportunity arises, but we are certainly no threat to the two top registry sets, as we have no plan to commit that much to achieve the best set. Still, we like the books and our goal is to put together a 9.6/9.8 run, absent #1, although it will undoubtedly take many years.
