Owner's Description
The introduction of this 5000 Cordobas note which was the largest note introduced to date and was the first sign that inflation was becoming rampant within the country. It was part of the Serie G initially ordered by the Central Bank through a resolution on the 30th of April 1985 and later modified to be a larger order on the 30th of December 1985. There is no details for how many notes were ordered but I am almost sure that 70 million 5000 Cordobas notes were printed. Roughly half of these were put into circulation this pick 146, the other half were later overprinted and were used as Pick 157.
The obverse of the banknote features General Benjamin Zeledon who was a lawyer and declared a National Hero in 1984 for his part in the civil war of 1912 in opposing the United States Marines involvement.
The reverse of the banknote features the National Assembly building.
