- The second of the two possible varieties of 3-cent notes, this note has the Dark curtain or background to the Washington Portrait. This note has nice margins with a perfectly center back. Good paper color. Only 9 available in 65EPQ with 6 better.

The first issue 5-cent note was initially issued without perforations and cut from the sheet with scissors. To make issuing the notes faster, they started to perforate the sheets, however this complicated the counting of the sheets as they tended to snag and fall apart too easy, so they went back to cutting the notes from the sheet. Perforated notes tend to be easily damaged due to the perfs sticking out. This gem Uncirculated no monogram note features good centering and color. These are scarce and hard to find with good centering. The perfs are good with a few that are a bit short. A very nice overall note with only one note graded better.

Always a tough note to acquire as there are only 11 graded with only one better than this piece. The bronze oval is well centered, but it is cracked and slightly dark on the bottom. The top and right margins are very tight. Surcharges are very clear. There appears to be a slight crease down the middle with a strong light.

There are only 12 notes in the census with only two notes better that this one. The bottom margin is a bit tight, but the other ones are great and the note has good embossing. Bright bronze on the front. Very bright ink on the back that is also well centered on clean paper.
