Owner's Description

1973 saw British Honduras renamed Belize and the Board of Commissioners of Currency continued to issue banknotes until 1976 under the ‘The Government of Belize’. These notes, P33 to P37, are essentially the same as the final British Honduras issues although the title and the colour scheme is different. The denominations which circulated were $1 (the example note in this set is P33b), $2, $5, $10 and $20. The interim Monetary Authority of Belize took over in 1980 with the Central Bank of Belize founded in January 1982 completing the transition to independent control of the currency and remains the sole issuer of banknotes for the country.
