NOTABLE ABOUT THIS NOTE

The Series D £1 note was the last £1 note issued by the Bank of England, as this denomination was gradually replaced by the £1 coin beginning in 1983.

A distinctive feature of this issue was that the serial number was printed on it only once.


SIGN OF THE TIME

This note features the signature of John B. Page.

Page was the 25th Chief Cashier of the Bank of England, serving from March 1, 1970 to February 29, 1980.
