NOTABLE ABOUT THIS NOTE

This note is similar to the preceding Series D £50 note (B352), except that this issue features updated colors, in particular light olive green in the text, Britannia symbol, and denomination numerals.

While the Pick catalogue doesn’t classify this note as the first in a new type, the Banknote Book does because of the color modifications.

SIGN OF THE TIME

This note features the signature of George M. Gill.

Gill was the 27th Chief Cashier of the Bank of England, serving from March 1, 1988 to November 24, 1991.

MEANWHILE, ON THREADNEEDLE STREET...

Robin Leigh-Pemberton was Governor of the Bank of England when this note was issued. He was the Bank’s 117th Governor, serving from July 1, 1983 to June 30, 1993.
