The Series G (first issue) Polymer £5 note was the last Bank of England £5 note to feature the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

This was the first banknote in the world to use Kurz’s Kinegram Colors holographic stripe, a security feature that enhances banknote security foils with multiple colors.

SIGN OF THE TIME

This note features the signature of Victoria Cleland.

Cleland was the 32nd and is currently the 34th Chief Cashier of the Bank of England. She is the only person to serve two non-concurrent terms as Chief Cashier. Cleland’s first term ran from June 1, 2014 to May 30, 2018. She began her current term on June 2, 2025.

Current Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was Governor of the Bank of England when this note was issued. He was the Bank’s 120th Governor, serving from July 1, 2013 to March 15, 2020. He was the first non-Briton to be appointed to the role since the Bank of England was established in 1694.
