Owner's Description

"There are several varieties in different denominations. depicted as a scene of terror and adventure on the high seas, as seal hunters try to fend off a fierce polar bear that seems determined to board their small craft. The mother ship in the distance is too far away to render assistance. The motif was inspired by the Kane expedition to the Arctic." From "100 Greatest American currency Notes." by Q. David Bowers and David M. Sundman. This polar bear motif appears on a variety of different states obsoletes. It also has an eagle so it fits this set plus my obsolete proofs with eagles.
