The printed inks are all bold with deep blue overprints found. The stamped bank officers' signatures of W.R. Porter, Cashier and Wm. H. Elliot, President are faded a bit but still visible. |

HA has sold some impressive notes on this charter, but none were 1902 series Date Backs (DBs). There's one other $5 DB in VG/F SN 6924/A3500991B. Despite holes and edge damage, the note has beautiful signatures of Percy K. Johnston, Cashier, and J.B. Lured (although K.C. Rodes was President), a bank SN 3 off from a radar, and the look of a VF+. | Owner's Description: Baltimore, Maryland The Merchants-Mechanics NB Ch. # (E)1413 Fr. 595 Napier | Thompson $5 1902 DB PMG 15 Fr. 595 SN 63018/D73175B pp D/397. Bank officers are John B.H. Dunn and D.(Douglas) H. Thomas as cashier and president, respectively. Charter number 1413 went through five bank titles over the years of the national era. This is the 2d title and scarcest. |
