Owner's Description: John Davison Rockefeller III started the Dunbar National Bank of New York on September 17, 1928 and closed in 1935.
It was named after writer poet Paul L. Dunbar. The bank was established to serve the business and personal banking interest of Harlem's Afro-American population. Managed by Afro-Americans.
| Owner's Description: Anthony Overton a slave was born March 18, 1864, Monroe, Lousiana. He established and owned several
Hygienic Manufacturing and Sales companies. One being High-Brown Products, a full line of ladies fine cosmetics
in Chicago. Mr Overton also sought a national bank charter and in 1922 he opened the Douglas National Bank.
This was the first nationally chartered, Afro-American-owned bank.
