I chose PMG Collectors Society as my platform to organize and display my collection because they are simply the best format for collectors.

Included in this collection are type examples from other towns in Georgia.

Set Description:
This Collection of Dalton Georgia Notes is an attempt to assemble a Date, Denomination, Type, Serial Number and Notes with Special Annotations. This Collection is made up of high grade and low grade notes. The notes with special annotations are found on the low grade high circulation notes. This collection will be a continuous work in progress.

1837 Dalton originally established as Cross Plains, changed its name to Dalton in 1847.
1803 Milledgeville was established as the State Capital during the Antebellum period.
1847 Atlanta was established as a Rail Road and Industrial hub in Georgia.
1736 Augusta was established on this date and was the 2nd town in the British Colony.
1733 Savannah was established on this date and was the 1st Colonial and State Capital in Georgia.

I am constantly searching for Dalton Georgia notes to upgrade my collection.
Especially low serial numbers, consecutive serial numbers and notes with annotations on the reverse. Please feel free to contact me if you have any Dalton notes for sale. marktruelove@icloud.com

The offices of Cashier and President were altered by the addition of a letter “A” before the printed title of “Cashier” and the written letter “V” before the engraved designation of “President”. When these pink fraudulent bank notes started arriving in Dalton, the legitimate officials were alarmed by there appearance and the bank refused to honor these bills when more kept arriving. The story of these pink tinted notes had not ended for there was a multitude of people who were duped and some at a considerable loss. Legal proceedings began when John Erwin, disconsolate holder of 34 notes totaling $138, brought the case before Judge W.A. Walker in the April 1860 term of the Whitfield Superior Court.

By 1857 James Morris had acquired a fortune of $250,000 dollars. He died on June 12, 1865 His large fortune consisting mainly in cash and real estate appeared to melt away— no one outside of his disappearing cash fortune knew hardly how. The (75) notes in this collection designated with 🏵 came all at once in a hoard of notes that I purchased from an Atlanta Currency Dealer. I will always wonder if these notes could have been some of James Morris personal cash fortune.

Rare Manouvrier CSA T-12 Reverse
🔑Only 1 Certified by PMG
Issued: November 10, 1861
President: Larkin Fullilove
Cashier: George Wadsworth
J. Manouvrier had created a $5 & $10 bill for the CSA National Government earlier and they were the only 1861 CSA currency to have a pale blue “Confederate States of America” reverse. On the route to the Confederate Treasury in Richmond the shipment of $10 notes was pilfered and officials decided to destroy the remaining stock. No examples of the $10 notes have ever been discovered. But, the 15,556 $5 notes known as Type 12 made it into circulation. These notes are very rare and considered by some to be the Holy Grail of Dalton notes.

Bank of Greensborough, Georgia
President: O.S. Stevens
Cashier: J.T. Stevens
In November 1856 it was reported that the Bank of Greensborough had been organized following the payment of $50,000 in specie as capital. The board of directors had been elected, and Francis Cone was named President, with Theodore Thompson named Cashier.
After about a year of operation, the bank failed, and efforts to revive it were unsuccessful. Eventually, the printing plates for the notes fell in the hands of the Stevens brothers from Maine. They printed fraudulent notes in areas far from Georgia.

Bank of Morgan, Georgia
Morgan was established in 1854 and became the seat of Calhoun County. In 1856 it was officially incorporated as a city.
The Bank of Morgan was a fraudulent bank. Although legally chartered by the state, it never opened. The notes were issued in the North, and when they eventually made their way to this small town, there was no one to redeem them. The plates, however, were used to print altered notes across the country.
