Printed when the BEP used the beautiful Yellow-Green ink for seals, serial numbers, and backs. Stockpiled for years while no $5 FRNs were printed the sheets were brought out after the color change to the darker Blue-Green ink to receive seals and serial numbers. These Non-Mules have history and are tough to find. For regular non-stars as of 12-20-11 there are only two known for Cleveland, one known for Richmond, and none known for Kansas. Odd, stars are known for Kansas but no regulars.

Set Description:

While building my collection of Emergency notes I read an article which told of all varieties of Emergency Notes. One variety, the 1934 $5 Hawaii Non-Mule had an interesting history; all were from BEP stockpiled sheets from 1936-37. The BEP did not print $5 FRNs for a number of years and during that time had changed from Yellow-Green ink to Blue-Green ink in 1940. When the BEP resumed printing $5 FRNs they had a stockpile of Yellow-Green back sheets printed for each district, of course all are Non-Mules. The stockpiled sheets for the San Francisco district received brown seals and serials while the sheets for the remaining eleven districts received Dark Green Seals and serial numbers. This is a collection made from what remains of the BEP stockpile, notes I think of as special, somewhat unique.
Scans for all my notes have been taken over time as the scanner aged. I can see the difference; as much as I do not want to spend the time rescanning with a fixed setting, it needs to be done.
