America's experimental Military Payment Certificates were the Area (Zone)"A" Suppplemental U.S. Allied Military Currency (AMC) issued in Japan July 19, 1946 and withdrawn September 30, 1946. All notes are identified by Series 100 and large "A" underprint along with the denomination counter and serial number on their face. This collection includes SPECIMEN notes.

Set Description:

The sheets of "A" notes were printed by Stecher-Traung of San Francisco in 1945 were cut, numbered and wrapped by the California State Printing Office in Sacramento, CA. They were in use for only a short period in Japan (and also earlier in Korea) by US Forces. These notes were used in the same manner that would be utilized for the all later issues of Military Payment Certificates (MPC), meaning for use by military and authorized forces, but NOT the local population.

The number of notes printed are referenced from the Comprehensive Catalog of Military Payment Certificates, 4th edition (2002), by Fred Schwan and differ significantly from numbers listed in 1995 work, World War II Remembered, by Fred Schwan and Joseph Bolling.
