Owner's Description:
While the 4th dollar wasn’t in circulation very long, the release of new 1-dollar through 500-dollar notes so shortly after the release of the same denominations as part of the third dollar series forced the government to once again redesign and change up the layout of the notes so that the new 4th dollars wouldn’t be confused with that all-to-recently-released 3rd dollars. The 3rd dollars had used two small, square images to decorate the back of the notes. The 4th dollars returned to having ...
Owner's Description:
The third redenomination was announced on February 2nd, 2009, exactly 2 years to the day after the 2nd redenomination was announced. The third dollar notes were demonetized at the end of June 2009, less than 1 year after they were released. The 4th dollar (ZWL) was mostly a non-event, however as, by Jan 2009, the Zimbabwe economy was almost completely dollarized - in this case dollarized meaning the US dollar, which almost everyone was using instead of the Zimbabwe dollar. Some people were...

Annnnnd…. Done! This is it! The last banknote issued before the final demise and demonetization of the Zimbabwean dollar and the first (sequence of) Zimbabwean national currency (currencies). The government and the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe put issuance of the Zimbabwean currency “on hold” in 2009 for “at least a year.” They would officially and finally demonetize the currency in 2015. As such, it has been 10 years since Zimbabwe issued banknotes in their own currency (Note: The bond notes iss...

Owner's Description:
Sequential notes can be a big deal with note collecting and having a pair of highly graded notes with sequential serial numbers can help notes fetch quite a premium in some cases – the Zimbabwean 3rd dollars (mostly the later issues) and 4th dollars are not one of those cases. By the time these notes were released, even though the currency wasn’t abandoned / suspended / demonetized yet, the people of the country had already mostly abandoned it and the “dollarization” of the economy was most...
Owner's Description:
At this point someone might fairly click on this note in this set saying, “Hold on!?! This is a set about Zimbabwean banknotes and checks! What is this FRN doing here?” I have included this note to acknowledge and discuss the state of things in late 2008 and early 2009 as the people of the country de facto abandoned the Zimbabwean dollar, which, in turn, finally forced the government to abandon the currency or “suspend issuance.” And it would stay suspended. For 10 years. The first new Zimba...

Owner's Description:
I can only really speculate on what US Bills would have been in circulation in Zimbabwe at the time of the dollarization and the abandonment of the 3rd & 4th dollar in 2009 and in what relative quantities. Given the timing of the collapse of the Zimbabwean currency, mostly occurring from 2005 to 2009, I think both the updated-but-not-colorized and colorized designs of the US $5 note would have most likely been the $5 designs in circulation in Zimbabwe at that time - in addition to US $1 bills...
