Owner's Description:
Since I was born in the mid-1980s, this is the design they were using when I was growing up as a child. So this is the design I saw when I got a $5 bill from my grandmother for my birthday or as part of a Christmas present - She always gave us $25, usually as a $20 and a $5 bill. The 1993 series bills and later have microprinting and plastic security strips in the bills. These were the first modern anti-counterfeiting / counterfeit detection features added to the bills but these changes didn'...
Owner's Description:
This 2003 note was to show what the US $5 note looked like after the initial re-design occurred in the early 1990s but before they started adding colors and some of the other more advanced security features to the bill. I remember when they announced that they were going to start changing the look of the money and thought it was crazy. My family joked at the time that it was going to start looking like "Monopoly money." This note design was introduced in 2000 to combat counterfeiting. This...

Owner's Description:
This note was acquired to show the first redesign of the $10 note, before they started adding the colors and other more advanced security features. The use of this design started in 2000. This was the first major / complete redesign of the $10 bill since the US started using the small size currency in 1929. Yeah, there were smaller changes during that time - getting rid of gold and silver redemption among others - but that old design was in use for a staggering 71 years. This design, by contr...
Owner's Description:
This 2006 note was picked up to show the look / design of the $5 bill after it was colorized in the middle of the first decade of the new millennium. If I remember right, the announcement that they were going to start adding colors and other advanced security features to the money made me think it was both cool and silly. The money was REALLY going to start looking like "monopoly money" now, right? And the "greenback" wouldn't be all green anymore. It just seemed crazy. Now? Overall I like...

Owner's Description:
This note was acquired to show the look of the note after they started adding colors to it. The use of this design started in 2006. So far this note design has been in use for 14 years - beating the 6 years of the prior design but unlikely to challenge the 71 year run of the design in use at the time of my birth. Overall I like the design but I think these newer note designs suffer from being half-measures. They're still trying to look like the old notes / old money and keep the green colo...
Owner's Description:
Mostly just sticking this back here so it can be next to the newer notes in the set, as a commentary on how dated this note looks next to all the new, colorized notes. Although I think even the colorized US notes look pretty dated compared to some of the new polymer notes and hybrid material notes coming from some other countries now.
