This is a moderately circulated but pleasing example that bears one of the most sought after town names in the country. Staple holes to right of portrait. Wonderful pen signatures of Pres. Edward McDonald and Cashier A.F. Greenwaldt are still found on this $20 from this popular Carroll County bank. 1143264-007 $20 1902 Plain Back National Bank NotesUnited StatesVF 20
Highland Falls, NY The First NB Ch. # 8850 PMG 20 Highland Falls, NY The First NB Ch. # 8850 PMG 20 $5 Ty 1 SN F001100A pp F61/1 Binary Radar! This is a truly scarce Orange County bank in small size, with just ten examples spanning two different titles listed in the census. This piece is one of the ten reported and bears an appealing "binary radar" serial number of 001100. 5013797-008 $5 1929 Ty. 1 Small SizeUnited StatesVF 20
Park Falls, WI First NB, Ch. # (M)10489 PMG 20 $5 Park Falls, WI First NB, Ch. # (M)10489 PMG 20 $5 1902 DB Fr. 597 SN 236/Y189903A pp D/354 dtd. Jan. 26, 1914. The total number of sheets issued by this bank was just under 5,000 with only 410 sheets of $5 DBs, and with a large size outstanding of $1,020, indicating limited possibilities for new discoveries from here. This evenly circulated and well centered example has purple stamped signatures. This YA note would have been produced in 1914 shortly after the bank rec'd its charter. F.J. Kandutsch served as Cashier from the start (1914-18). J.B. Saunders signed as cashier yet didn't appear as Cashier in Comptroller of the Currency reports until 1919. The faded president's signature is that of G. Waldo also consistent with a note signed a few years after production. A fault-free, evenly-circulated example previously from the Chet Krause Collection. 8064690-013 $5 1902 Date Back National Bank NotesUnited StatesVF 20

Walden, NY The Third NB Ch. # 10923 PMG 15 $5 PB Walden, NY The Third NB Ch. # 10923 PMG 15 $5 1902 PB Fr. 606 Radar SN 16361 pp D/1361 dtd. Nov. 4, 1916. Somewhat faded, purple signatures of C.W. Kay, Cashier, and Elmer Dell, President. A circulated Plain Back from this Orange County bank that had an interesting history. While it called itself the Third National, it was actually a recharter of the NB of Walden which had been a recharter of the Walden NB. Therefore, while Walden legally had three national banks over the years, they all occupied the same physical premises in successive order. In belated recognition of this fact, the Third NB changed its name to the First NB&TC in May 1930. A couple of minor repairs have been noted by PMG.

Walden is a boys' name of Old English origin, and the meaning of Walden is "wooded valley". Also form of Waldo, but better known from Thoreau's book and the pond "Walden".

Original series notes carry the town name as Athol Depot. Originally called Pequoiag by Native Americans, the area was subsequently settled in 1735 and in 1762, the name was changed to Athol. Outdoor activities center around the Millers River. The River Rat Race, an annual canoe race held each spring, draws participants from all parts of New England. 8075269-010 $10 1902 Plain Back National Bank NotesUnited StatesF 15

Toms River, NJ The First NB Ch. # (E)2509 PMG 25 Toms River, NJ The First NB Ch. # (E)2509 PMG 25 $5 1882 VB Fr. 574 Rotator SN 6889/T924671 pp D/160 dtd. March 4, 1901. A popular large size note from this Ocean County bank. This 1882 $5 Value Back is a far scarcer type with only an unsightly PMG VG 8 Net appearing about a decade ago. The Low family provided officers for the FNB and here you'll see legible, but slightly faded signatures of Robert H. Arney, Cashier and Henry A. Low, President (1910-1925). Henry Low was Cashier from 1896-1909, succeeding Wm. A Low who was the first Cashier starting in 1881 along with President John Aumack. 2510893-007 $5 1882 Value Back National Bank NotesUnited StatesVF 25
