The bank note company that made backs created the State Seals, some of which did not conform to the actual State Seals. BEP attempted to correct this and around 1896, backs with corrected seals were made. Look for NY, VT, MD, IA, others? WORK IN PROGRESS. NY is done.

MD incorrect state seal Cumberland, MD The Second NB Ch. # 1519 PMG 12 $20 1882 BB Fr. 496 SN 6856/N982969 pp A/7 dtd. July 30th 1885 A better Allegany County location found up in the western mountains of Maryland. Common enough during the Third Charter era, notes before that time are scarce with this note one of only four Brown Backs and the only $20 reported. The signatures of Cashier D(aniel) Annan and President Lloyd Lowndes are weak but there. IA Corrected state seal Odebolt, IA The First NB Ch. # 4511 Fr. 484 Rosecrans | Huston PMG 20. SN 1348/Y829744 pp C/11 dtd. Jan. 24, 1891 A decent, moderately circulated note from this Odebolt bank that is only the third Brown Back reported (with one of the other pieces locked away in the Higgins Museum and PCGS 15PPQ SN 2606. It has sustained only moderate, problem free wear and displays pleasing color and signatures of Joseph Mattes President and W.F. Bay Cashier. NY incorrect state seal Geneseo, NY The Genesee Valley NB Ch. # 886 $1 Fr. 380 Colby | Spinner SN 606/599126 pp C PMG Fine 12, with a few pinholes. Radar Bank SN 606. This is an evenly circulated and nicely margined ace from this Livingston County bank with a blue Treasury serial number and it is without a prefix or suffix letter. VT incorrect state seal Orwell, VT The First NB Ch. # 228 PMG 12 $2 Original Fr. 387 Colby | Spinner SN 2117/209408 pp A dated January 2d, 1865. Mount Independence, elevation 306 feet (93 m), is located in northwest Orwell, overlooking Lake Champlain and the town of Ticonderoga, NY.
