Japan Area (Zone)"B" supplemental U.S. Allied Military Currency (AMC) was issued from September 6, 1945 through July 15, 1948 in Japan and was also used in the Ryukus Islands (Okinawa) from April 1, 1945 until September 30, 1958. As a result, this series became the longest used Allied Military Currency of World War II. Although the Zone "B" notes carry the same Series 100 as their Zone "A" counterpart, they are identified by a large "B" underprint on their face along with denomination counter and serial number.

Set Description:
Compared to the Japan Zone "A", the unusual aspect of the Zone "B" issue is, that over the 12+ years of use, different denominations were printed by: US government contractor (Stecher-Trang Lithograph), the US government (Bureau of Engraving and Printing / BEP) and the Japanese Finance Ministry Printing Bureau (FMPB). The process of acquiring a high grade complete set, including replacement and specimen issues, continues to be a numismatic challange.
