During 1985 the Bangko Sentral released a new series of completely redesigned banknotes. The 2 Piso note was replaced by a coin and Emilio Aguinaldo, President of the First Republic replaced Andres Bonifacio on the 5 Piso banknote.
Before the entire series was issued, the then President Ferdinand Marcos was ousted from power by ''Cory'' Aquino
and the ''People Power'' Revolution of February 1986.
Only the 5, 10 and 20 Piso notes were issued with the Marcos signature.
This series also saw the release of the 500 and 1000 Piso banknotes.
