Dark Horse Comics #1, 1st appearance of Time Cop, 1st Dark Horse Robocop story

Dark Horse Comics (DHC) was the second anthology series published by Dark Horse that ran concurrently with Dark Horse Presents (DHP). Unlike DHP who’s story were predominantly in black and white DHC stories were only printed in color. Just like its predecessor DHC also contained several Predator and Aliens stories along with other popular characters. The series was also a vehicle for the publisher to introduce new characters to readers. Some of these characters ended up getting their own spin off series. DHC only lasted 25 issues and was canceled just two years after its first issue.

Dark Horse Comics #7 and #8, 1st appearance of Nomi Sunrider, 1st appearance of “X”

I was not aware of this series when it was released. I wouldn’t become aware of it until decades later when a fellow board member posted a picture of some recent “pick ups”. I had read several of the Aliens and Predator stories found within this run but I had read them in trade paperback or omnibus form. When I discovered this series I picked up a full run off of eBay and when it was delivered I got to reading. As I’m going through these books I was shocked at what I had been missing; Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Robocop, 007 and the introduction of some other cool storylines, definitely worth the $30 I paid.

I don’t recall why I decided to attempt to collect this series in 9.8. I think it was when I picked up issue #1 and then other issues started popping up in 9.8. I figured it was something fun to do on the side. The covers are fantastic and the issues are usually priced fairly decent. I am not in a hurry to get this series completed these books have picked up a bit in popularity so more and more keep getting sent to CGC. At some point a 9.8 run will be nice to have the gaps in the set are a bit of an eye sore. Let’s hope more sellers decide to slab up some more of these books.
