The Black Knight
Besides Thor, there is—arguably—only one true superhero: the Black Knight. He may not be the traditional knight in shining armor who saves innocent princesses, but he is certainly a character with depth and complexity, and certainly my favorite. The Black Knight, whose true identity is Dane Whitman, is a man of honor, courage, and a sense of duty, often caught between his legacy and his desire to create his own path. Wielding the mystical Ebony Blade, he is both a formidable warrior and a tragic figure, burdened by the sword’s dark history and its corrupting influence. Though his armor is far from shining, and his mission is far more grounded in real-world struggles, the Black Knight stands as a true hero in the Marvel Universe—combining the heart of a knight with the soul of a complex, flawed man. Whether fighting alongside the Avengers or standing solo, Dane Whitman proves that a hero isn’t defined by their appearance, but by the choices they make.
With this collection, I aim to honor the Black Knight, and as outlined in the "Collecting Goal", I strive to include all the issues featuring this hero created by Marvel. Since the Black Knight is a relatively obscure and long-established character, finding these comics in decent condition at an affordable price can be a challenge. I still find myself debating which specific issues to include in this collection, but ultimately, time will tell what fits and what doesn’t.
