Since around 2012, I've considered the idea of trying to complete the Timely/Atlas Captain America run in Signature Series. I know that sounds like such a lofty goal that one might think me crazy for even entertaining the idea of such a notion. Here in late February of 2014, there aren't even many artists or writers LEFT who would be considered eligible to sign a Timely or Atlas Captain America issue. Of course there are some random issues out there that have already been Signature Series certified, perhaps a few dozen at most. Prying them from the hands of those with them in their possession might prove to be difficult at best. With the passing of Captain America co-creator Joe Simon in December of 2012, issues previously signed by him are cherished by those fortunate enough to have been able to obtain one and most are unlikely to part with them. At this time, I can only think of a few people left who could sign a Timely or Atlas Cap. Those people being: Stan Lee, Ken Bald, Al Bellman, John Romita or Dick Ayers. The actual numerical grade of the comics in this set isn't as high of a concern to me, as I feel it's best to use lower grade copies when considering obtaining signatures. With that in mind, I'll do my best with the resources at my disposal to accomplish this all-but-insurmountable feat. This goal may very well take the rest of my days to accomplish, with the strong possibility that I never even get very close. Come along with me on my journey into honoring the artists and writers who have left behind for us one of the most iconic comic book characters of all time!!!
