Owner's Description

France. Treasury banknotes. Territories occupied after 1918. Memel. 1922 Issue. 50 pfennig Type 1922 Memel Notgeld. (Ref. Pick: # 1, TBB: # B101, Rosenberg: # 846, Grabowski: # MEM-1 or Kolsky: # 164). Dimensions: 90 x 58 mm. Banknote dated February 22, 1922. Watermark: no. Printer: Parcis, Munich. Front and back: multicolored print with dominant monochrome in blue on the front and green, yellow and blue on the back. Description on the front: Security background in blue monochrome composed of wavy patterns with a large rosette in the center containing the coat of arms of the town of Memel. All texts are printed in black. Top center, the words "Notgeld der Handelskammer des Memelgebiets (Emergency notes from the Chamber of Commerce of the Memel country)". Below, the value in Gothic letters "1/2 Fünfzig Pfennig 1/2", the five-digit or six-digit banknote number and the words "Ungültig drei Monate nach Abruf (without value 3 months after the end of the issue)" . On the left, the words in French: "Authorized: Memel, February 22, 1922 The High Commissioner Representative of the Allied Powers". Four signatures are affixed at the bottom of the post: G. Petisné, Joseph Kraus, Berhnard Hennig, & Dr. F.J. Meier. Description of the back: floral frame with a general view of the town of Memel from the Curonian Spit dune. In the upper part, a white banner with the word Memel printed in black. At the bottom, a white cartridge containing the words "Notgeld der Handelskammer" and on each side, the value "50 Pfg" repeated twice in black. The name of the printer is shown in the center outside the frame "GEBR." PARCUS MÜNCHEN ”. The bill is known without numbering. No specimen known for this note.
