Owner's Description

The four-issue Agro Check series represents the last gasp of the 2nd dollar. While economic stability had not been achieved and hyperinflation continued to rage through the Zimbabwean economy, once the denominations hit 100 Billion or higher the government is going to be forced to cut some zeros off the money to keep the numbers at least somewhat manageable (if you can call 100 Billion dollar denominations manageable). As a result, in July 2008 the government was forced to go ahead with the 2nd redenomination and release the third dollar notes they’d been holding back since 2007.

Like the Bearer Checks that preceded them, the Agro Checks show the Chiremba rocks only as a minor design feature as part of the seal of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. The design of the front is dominated by very large numbers that give the first 1-3 digits of the denomination above the word “Billion.” On the back, all four notes feature an image of a long row of grain silos. Giraffes appear on both sides of all the notes in this series, mirrored on the front and back of the note.

The $100 billion Agro Check was the largest of the second dollar, sharing the record for the largest number of zeroes depicted on a banknote with the Yugoslav 500 billion dinar note of 1993. Both notes lost this distinction / record with the release of the 10 trillion, 20 trillion, 50 trillion and 100 trillion notes.
