Owner's Description

Picked up at Stacks Bowers auction of one of the great collections. D. Brent Pogue had an eye for the best of the best. Don't we all wish we had a few million dollars to build a world class collection. Just a little slice is good for us mere mortals, especially if it's a Texas note. From S&B:

Serial Number 1

Sulphur Springs, Texas. $10 1929 Ty. 1. Friedberg 1801-1. First NB. Charter #12845. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. Serial Number 1. Track and Price lists 15 small survivors from this bank with this being the only Serial Number 1 and the finest specimen of all the small notes.

This is the only serial number 1 note known from this scarce Hopkins County bank. The First National Bank was chartered in November 1925 and issued only $488,680 in large and small size notes before liquidating in January 1933. This example displays bright, well margined paper and boldly printed inks
