To the left and right of the cartouche is the denomination printed numerically, at the lower left is the signature of the Director of the Bank along with the year printed to the lower right is the signature of the treasurer below which is the series and block number. NOTES: This note, Pick #1b with inverted back, is the more common note of the two varieties listed in the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money. Pick #1a, printing same way on both sides, is rare but can often be found 2-3 times a year in major auctions.

All Pick #1's have the same serial number, (AD) 185, printed in black, signatures are also printed in black on authentic notes.

Printed on thick white paper in Kyiv, by the printing office of Vasyl Kulzhenko. Specimens were produced depicting only the front with no signatures or serial number.

During The Battle of Kyiv, January - February 1918, the Bolshevik lead Red Guard (Army) stormed the city resulting in the evacuation of the Central Rada and the taking of a cliché used for the printing of 100 karbovantsiv banknotes of 1917. Therefore the Government of Ukraine, on September 24, 1918, announced the exchange of these banknotes for others until November 1, 1918 after which they were declared nonpayment. Contemporary counterfeits were produced with the stolen cliché and can be identified by the use of brown ink for the serial number and signatures. The contemporary counterfeit is listed in Pick as 1bx.
